People who work at the Baur au Lac come from all over the world – and bring talent, passion and personality with them to Zurich. This makes it all the more important to have a place where you can arrive. Not just physically, but on a human level. That’s exactly what we were allowed to design: the first of two new staff houses – as a living space, welcome place and feel-good zone.
Not a radical makeover, but a deliberately gentle glow-up with a clear effect. Color, light and texture were used in such a way that they work together harmoniously and create a sense of arrival. New floors convey warmth and stability, fresh color schemes have a friendly, bright and activating effect, and the solid furnishings are deliberately colorful – not loud, but full of life. This creates an atmosphere that makes respect and appreciation palpable for people who come from near and far to be part of the Baur au Lac team and deliver top performance every day.
The goal was clear: not a functional staff house, but a second home. A place to take a deep breath after long shifts, to arrive after a long journey and to start a new chapter together. The furnishings convey stability, the colors create lightness – and together they create a feeling of: This is where I belong.
With this project, the Baur au Lac shows that hospitality does not end at the hotel door – it begins where the people who make it possible live.
